About Us The flame of a candle has come to symbolize many of mankind's highest human qualities. Qualities such as faith, hope, remembrance, freedom, wisdom and love raise us toward our higher capacities, and each is symbolized by the candle's flame. This is why we became candle merchants, and it is to the tradition of this commerce we strive to do honor. The Grand Traverse region of northern Michigan is characterized by pure inland lakes, the deep cold fjord-like bay from which it takes its name, and quiet rolling woodlands. The people live with quiet reflective purpose, and have sustained The Candle Factory since our beginning in 1971. Their enthusiasm for our efforts and our faith in our purpose has been our blessing for success. Our presence on the Internet presents us with the challenge of translating what we have done within a welcoming physical environment to a frighteningly new Earth-spanning electronic environment.
